CASA drone registration deadline looms

RPAs flown for commercial purposes must be registered with CASA by January 28, else operators risk fines of up to $11,100.

The enforcement date for CASA’s mandatory drone registration programme is rushing up to meet us — with large penalties applying for commercial operation of unregistered aircraft beyond January 28.

The good news is that the registration is currently free, is valid for 12 months, the process  can be done online and is ‘quick and easy’, according to CASA.

Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) holders seeking to register aircraft need:

  • to be 16 or older
  • proof of identity, such as an Australian passport, Australian birth or citizenship certificate, or ImmiCard
  • a myCASA account
  • an aviation reference number (ARN)
  • make, model, serial number, weight and type of drone
  • to download and/or print their certificate of registration from myCASA

CASA recommends that RPAs or fleets of RPAs be registered in your business or employer’s name, rather than using your individual aviation reference number (ARN).

More information on the process is in the video below.
