Germany’s HeiGIT gGmbH builds app for COVID-19 vaccination centers

Heidelberg Institute for Geoinformation Technology (HeiGIT gGmbH) in collaboration with the GIScience Research Group at Heidelberg University, develops a vaccination center application, which helps to find the best route to the nearest COVID-19 vaccination center.
The route planner is available at https://impfzentrum.openrouteservice.org. The application is built for all modern web browsers, PC, smartphones, and tablets. OpenStreetMap‘s data is used for the data basis for both route planning and vaccination centers. People can also report or add missing data directly to OpenStreetMap.
Currently, this application is Germany-based and could be extended to other regions as well if the vaccination centers are added on OpenStreetMap. The first prototype of the application is still in development and in the process of further improvements.
The route can be detected after the user fills in the information of personal vaccination appointments. Openrouteservice supports accessibility and analyzes by calculating isochrones.
